YET LEGAL UPDATE
Username checks
Notice date: October 5, 2026
This limited update applies to username submissions through the updated, notice-aware app flow: the essential change and this link are shown before you save. It qualifies the references to human review of every username in the September 29, 2026 Terms, Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines. Older app flows without this notice keep their previous review process. This is not a change to every content-review process or to account age requirements.
Choose your own username
Choose a name or nickname that you want to use publicly. You do not have to use your legal name. Usernames must be unique and contain 3 to 24 letters from a-z, numbers or underscores. Unavailable and reserved names cannot be claimed. A username must not impersonate someone, infringe rights or violate the Community Guidelines.
Most usernames do not wait for a person
YET uses automated, rule-based checks on its servers for the constrained username field. Names passing these checks can be saved without prior human approval. Certain potential impersonation or abusive-name signals are referred for human review. These checks are limited: they do not guarantee detection of every harmful name and are not proof of age, identity, ownership of a brand or authorisation to represent someone.
An ordinary name previously held only because automatic screening was unavailable can be checked again when you retry it through the updated flow. A prior human rejection or a case reopened by a reviewer is not automatically overridden. A pending review does not mean a violation was found. Approval does not automatically publish a held submission: the relevant save must still succeed.
What remains unchanged
Other public submissions covered by YET's prepublication review, including covered event and profile content, comments and images, continue to require human review. Google Cloud Natural Language and Vision screening remain disabled. These username checks do not send usernames to those services and do not require permission for AI screening. Existing Google/Firebase hosting and optional Google sign-in are separate processing described in the Privacy Policy. No new advertising, biometric or age-estimation processing is introduced by this update.
Records and privacy
YET retains the submitted username, account and target identifiers, content and operation digests, check outcome, reasons, revisions and associated review records under the existing moderation purposes and retention periods. The submitted notice version identifies the notice-aware operation; it is not proof that you opened or read this page, and it does not record new acceptance of the Terms or fabricate a human approval. Automatic outcomes are distinguished from human decisions. The existing retention notice and data rights continue to apply.
A person can review a restriction
Contact info@yet.social to request free human review or report a misleading or abusive name. Include your username and a short explanation; do not send identity documents merely to choose a username. Existing complaint periods, applicable remedies and the review and appeal rights remain unchanged. You may choose a different available name, stop the submission, or use the existing account-closure route.
The original accepted documents remain available unchanged: September 29 Terms, September 29 Privacy Policy and September 29 Community Guidelines. This notice does not waive mandatory notice or renewed-agreement requirements where applicable.
